Hapuna Beach is spectacular. This strikingly beautiful, perfect white sand beach is located on the gold coast of the Big Island of Hawai’i about two and a half miles south of Kawaihae.
“Dr Beach” named it the Best Beach in America in 1993. On the northern end of the beach there is a large resort called the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. The whole beach is public access. The public parking is on the south end of the beach.
There is a $5.00 parking fee and handicap parking that takes you right down to the beach area. There are lots of picnic tables and bathroom facilities. There is a lifeguard on duty at this beach. The sand is perfect and the waves are calm. If you are looking for real Hawaii white sandy beach this is the ticket! The beach is about a 1/2 mile long and 250 feet wide. It is the perfect beach for making sand castles, volley ball, soccer, football or Frisbee!
Swimming in the warm Hawaii waters is such a treat! The water temperatures run about 80 degrees year around. There is limited shade here so you’ll want to bring an umbrella or canopy for shade and don’t forget your suntan lotion! It gets warm in this climate zone and very seldom rains. The wind can pick up and it can be very deceiving on how much sun you are actually getting! There are not any restaurants on site and the nearest ones will be in Kawaihae. The drive from Kona isn’t bad and it is definitely worth it! You’ll wan’t to spend the entire day there is no question so don’t forget to bring food and drinks. Once you are set up and relaxing in the sun, you won’t want to break it up with a food or drink run. I hope you enjoyed my post about Hapuna Beach!
